The historical color Giallorino, with its roots in the art of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, refers to a group of lead-tin yellow pigments (also known as lead stannates) that were widely used in European painting from the 13th to the 18th century.
Renowned for its opaque, pale, yet stable yellow hue, Giallorino was prized for its excellent covering power and lightfastness, often appearing in early frescoes, manuscript illuminations, and panel paintings.
Our Giallorino hue is a lead, tin and nickel free watercolor. In its pure form, it delivers a bright, sunny yellow, and when mixed with white, it transforms into a creamy, soft yellow that mirrors the refined clarity and gentle opacity of the historical pigment without any of the toxicity or instability associated with it.

Made by hand in Assisi, our watercolors are crafted according to a traditional recipe of raw pigments, gum arabic, local honey, rosemary essential oil and a wetting agent. This artisanal process creates a very pigmented and luminous paint that activates beautifully when wet.
Each half-pan is packaged with a corresponding color card with color details for your reference on the back.
