Blue Palette - Handmade Watercolor set

with Lapis Lazuli and YlnMn blue

This special edition palette features 12 selected shades of blue.

Including YInMn blue (PB86), an exclusive new bright blue pigment that achieves pure color tones that were previously inaccessible on the color wheel, dark blue between ultramarine blue and cobalt. This new pigment has has a rather complex chemical composition and is produced only in small quantities making it very precious.

The limited edition Blue palette also includes Lapis Lazuli, extra fine an intense deep blue color made from the semi-precious stone used in historical painting. We have a new exclusive source for our premium extra fine Lapis lazuli. This exquisite Fra Angelico blue pigment is made by grinding semi-precious lapis lazuli stones into a powder and exacting the purest pigment in small, artisan batches.

The stone has been mined for 6,000 years. The pigment was used in 14th and 15th century illuminated manuscripts and Italian panel paintings. During that period, ultramarine was more expensive than gold and often reserved for the cloaks of Christ and the Virgin.

Made by hand in Assisi, our watercolors are crafted according to a traditional recipe of raw pigments, gum arabic, local honey, rosemary essential oil and a wetting agent. This artisanal process creates a very pigmented and luminous paint that activates beautifully when wet.
