Van Dyck brown - Half pan
Van Dyck brown - Half pan
NBr8 | Excellent lightfastness | Semi-transparent
Van Dyke brown, also known as Cassel earth or Cologne earth, has been used in classical painting and it is named after the painter Anthony van Dyck. The color was originally made from peat or soil, and has been applied as both watercolor and oil paints. Our color is made of real German lignite, a fine, extremely dark brown pigment with extraordinary transparency.

Made by hand in Assisi, our watercolors are crafted according to a traditional recipe of raw pigments, gum arabic, local honey, rosemary essential oil and a wetting agent. This artisanal process creates a very pigmented and luminous paint that activates beautifully when wet.
Each half-pan is packaged with a corresponding color card with color details for your reference on the back.
