Malachite hue - Half pan
Malachite hue - Half pan
Amazonite, PG18, PW4, PY3 | Excellent lightfastness | Semi-opaque
Occurring in Egyptian tomb paintings, genuine malachite is perhaps the oldest known green pigmen and it is made from basic copper carbonate. In Middle eastern and European painting it seems to have been of importance mainly in the 14th through 16th century.
We have developed a beautiful copper free hue of this historic green by using an Enogu mineral base of Amazonite.
Made by hand in Assisi, our watercolors are crafted according to a traditional recipe of raw pigments, gum arabic, local honey, rosemary essential oil and a wetting agent. This artisanal process creates a very pigmented and luminous paint that activates beautifully when wet.
